A celebrated setting

Proudly developed by Cbus Property, 111 Castlereagh sits atop the former David Jones department store, originally built in 1938. As the city landscape evolved over the years, the experience and architecture of this former store has remained in the hearts of Sydneysiders. Honoring this significant setting of cherished heritage, the organic forms of the new tower create a meaningful dialogue with its historic foundation — an homage to the city’s past, present and future.

‘Rising above heritage and Hyde Park, 111 Castlereagh will stand out on the Sydney skyline, yet feel as if it has always been part of the city fabric.’

Preserving pride of place

Addressing the corner of Castlereagh and Market streets with a distinctive curve, the former David Jones building was designed to embody modern city life. Clad in Sydney’s famous Hawkesbury sandstone, heritage-listed architectural features will be preserved and enhanced, ensuring its proud legacy is admired long into the future.

‘We have placed ourselves in the mind of the building’s original architects, reimagining this building with the same progressive ambition.’

— Richard Francis-Jones, Design Director, FJCSTUDIO
